Carnatic

December Arts Festival 2022 is this year's annual celebration of music, dances and culture in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.Vidvat Sangeetha Booshana Madhu Iyer was invited to sing in Brahma Gana Sabha this year, at Arkay Convention Center. Enjoy this one hour long pleasure of carnatic music.

This Isai Thamizh Nee Seidha is Madhu's humble tribute to the voice we can never forget, the voice of the great T. R. Mahalingam. Joining her is dancer Malar Vizhi who has contributed beautifully to this masterpiece. Lyrics are in both Tamil and English under the description in Madhu's Notes in YouTube. This rendition is one of her many sacred and historical contributions to promote our traditional music.

Jai Jai Devi is a composition of Maharaja Swati Tirunal in the beautiful raga Hamsadwani.

Madhu Iyer with legendary singer P. Susheela amma, which is a most memorable moment. Madhu Iyer is known for her classical soft melodic style of singing that was introduced by P. Susheela amma in Tamil cinema industry.

Background Singing

Madhu's song Cheththu Pochchu Manasu in Pernbu movie was nominated for Anandha Vikatan Cinema Award 2019, and recieved second highest votes for the best female voice. She sang in many movies.

Recently she sang in Kalagath Thaliavan Movie produced by Uthayanithi Stalin. Other singer in this Movie is Shreya Ghoshal. Madhu's voice and singing style is considered as similar to that of Shreya Ghoshal's voice and singing style by some music directors and music commentors.

Carnatic Classes from Madhu Iyer

Madhu Iyer teaches Carnatic music to online students. She (as Madhumitha Srinivasan) started her singing journey at the age of 4.
Her immense interest in the art made her take up music as her mainstream of education. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree, specializing in music from Queen Mary’s College, Chennai.

Mutthai Tharu Patthi Thirunagai is a masterpiece on Lord Muruga written by Saint Arungirinathar in Tiruppugazh. It was popularised by the legendary singer T M. Soundarrajan. In this rendition, it was sung and performed by Madhu Iyer and Sukanya, with generous support and encouragement of Sri.Jayantha.

A rendition of a beautiful Tamizh composition on lord Hanuman popularized/tuned by Sri. Tanjavur S. Kalyanaraman not often sung these days is presented by Madhu.

Chittham irangadhadhen aiyya is a beautiful composition by Papanasam Sivan on Raga Sahana.

Ullam Urugudhaiyya is a devotional evergreen song written by Maragathamma and popularized by T. M. Soundarrajan. Madhu Iyer revived this song along with the talented dancer Anjali Padmakumar, Ravi.G , Abin Paul and Venkat.G.

Setthu Pocchu Manasu -lyrical video is alive here on Madhu Iyer's pleasant voice from “Peranbu” movie. Music was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, Lyrics by Karunakaran and Directed by "Thanga Meengal - Ram". Madhu's song was nominated to Anandha Vikatan Cinema Award 2019.

In the movie Kalaga Thaliavan going to be released on November 18, 2022, Madhu sang Neeladho for the music of Arrol Coreli, and casted by Udhayanidhi Stalin and Nidhhi Agerwal. Lyrics were written by Priyan.

One of the early original compositions of Madhu is this Pookale video rendition. Not only she sang, but also acted as a young girl infatuated by a handsome fellow traveller. So beautifully composed, sung and acted, this video song is memorable for many of her fans.

Pacchai Nirame is a beautiful song that instantly takes us into the woods surrounded by the greens !!! Originally sung by Maestro Hariharan.

The most recent remake of Madhu Iyer is 'Paadu Nilaave', a popular Tamil song from Movie Udaya Geetham. 'Paadu Nilave'was originally sung by S P Balasubrahmanyam and S. Janaki.

'Paadu Nilave' is a love song, portraying the emotions of the heroine for the hero who is unable to meet her as he is in prison. The background score beautifully conveys the tension and sadness underlying their longing for each other, as both the hero and the heroine harbour secrets that are corroding their soul, even as they sing about the pure white moon, or nila.

Tamil song 'Kodi Asaindhadhum Kaatru Vandhadhaa ' is from the movie Parthaal Pasi Theeruma. This song was originally sung by P.Susheela and T.M.Sounderarajan, lyrics penned by Kannadasan and music composed by Vishwanathan -Ramamoorthy . This song is a breezy melody that is hummable and light-hearted.

The lyrics by Kannadasan are a poetic expression of her feelings by the heroine. She questions what came first, and asks if the flag fluttered first, or the breeze came by before; if the moon came first, or the flower bloomed before, and so on. As she sings, she wonders if the restlessness and happiness she feels are love, affection, compassion or her right. The song beautifully expresses the conflicting emotions of confusion and restless joy that colour the first flush of love.
